We had our gender party this past weekend. What is a gender party? I hadn’t heard of it before until a friend mentioned it to me– It is a party to reveal the gender of a baby with family and close friends. When our doctor found out the gender of our baby she wrote it down on a piece of paper and put it in a sealed envelope. We forbid her from telling us, so the secret would remain sealed until the right moment!
We taped the envelope to the bottom of punch bowl, filled it with punch (and some other liquid fun) and gathered our friends for a potluck dinner. Once we finished off the contents of the bowl, we could flip it and open the envelope. Unfortunately, I couldn’t participate on the drinking part of it, but luckily I have good friends who helped me out.
When everyone arrived we had them pick a pink or blue note card, depending on whether they thought it was a boy or a girl, and offer a name suggestion. We counted the cards and it came up 15-11 in favor of a boy… hmmm would majority win the day?
When the punch was gone, the envelope was removed and handed to us. Ian and I opened it together and discovered we were having a boy!! Our friends were right! Everyone started clamping and howling.. It was an amazing moment that we shared with each other and our friends… Just priceless!
